I am interested in soaking a drug in a gel foam and then applying the foam topically in vivo to try to obtain a more sustained release of the compound. Do you have any experience with this please? Pros / Cons?
From pharmaceutical point of view, foam preparation increase the hydrophilic properties of the skin environment, where it should be lipophilic enough for good penetration of drugs through the skin.
I think there is no advantage in using the foam gel over the regular gel to get the sustained drug release. it depends on the type & concentration of gelling agent(s) used and the other additives incorporated to modify the release, and also the physicochemical properties of the API used in the gel and the method of incorporation into the gel.in addition to the ease of preparation of gel compared to foam gel.
