I cannot be hundred percent sure but I don't think it is used any longer. There are valves available with much better haemodynamic performance. Albert Starr kept using his valve till he retired. It is widely believed that just before he retired he was the only surgeon using it.
I have not seen a single replacement with it in last almost 7 years in my institution. Nor did i see a patient referred with this valve from other hospitals (we are the largest referral centre).
It is not commercially available anymore. Nevertheless, there are still patients with this implant, referred to different centers for a redo, but more like anecdotal cases, not routine one.
No more! I have actually never seen an implantation in my 11 years long experience. I think it is no more commercially available at the european market.
Dear Colleague, As you know these cardiac prostheses out of circulation today. We still have patients that have these devices implanted more than 30 years ago but really very few patients. They had an acceptable effective valve area and a high thrombogenic index.
Undoubtedly part of the history of the global Cardiovascular Surgery. These were very useful at the time.
I do not think it can still be found on the market and even if so it would not be ethical to use it in today's more developed valve era. The answer is no.
