Does anyone know the effect of Mn content on the transformation of austenite to martensite in high Mn steel during deformation process? For the high Mn steel with full austenite microstructure, the deformation can result in the transformation of austenite to martensite. The martensite is ε-martensite or α-martensite? Does the type of martensite (ε-martensite or α-martensite) have some relationships with the Mn contents?

You can probably calculate stacking fault energy (SFE) to predict the possibility of martensite transformation. The content of Mn is definitely associated with the martensite transformation. You can find the relavant information as follows:

I have read some literature on the deformation mechanism of the high-Mn steels. Based on the stacking fault energy (SFE) theory, the deformation mechanism can be categorized as transformation induced plasticity（TRIP）、 twinning induced plasticity（TWIP） and dislocation gliding. Either ε-martensite or α‘-martensite is named as deformation induced martensite, which is in relation with TRIP effect. During deformation, the formation of the two phases depend on the heat treatment process or the deformation condition（mainly including the deformation amount, the deformation rate）. Generally speaking, the γ phase to martensite phase transformation includes two types: γ→ε and γ→ε→α′. The ε-martensite phase can be regarded as an intermediate phase.
In fact, the phase transformation from austenite (fcc) into α′-martensite or ε-martensite (bcc) behavior has been studied through transmission electron microscopy by many researchers.·
Therefore, my suggestion to you is to search much more literature on the deformation behavior of TRIP steels、TRIP-assisted steels and 316L stainless steels（316SS）.

If you do not open something strange, Mn, as Gamma-stabilizer, always retard the austenite transformation into any (e.g. strain induced) alpha-phase. Hense, the more Mn, the more strain (or overcooling) is needful to start the transformation.
