There is some suggestion of pesticides and mercury associated with systemic autoimmune diseases, so it wouldn't be entirely surprising to see this happening across a variety of related AID.
Hi Alfonso and Christine, the real process in which pesticides and heavy metals act in autoimmune disease such as pemphigus is really unclear. What i know from literature searching is that mercury induced autoimmune response in rats and can compete with a protein important in the cell-cell junction, helping to trigger the disease. Lead could cause the increase of Th2 (common in pemphigus foliaceus) wich relates to increase of antibody production. There are so far 2 organophoshorus pesticides related to the disease expression. That's what I have so far, still have a long road to go and I could use some help... Thank you for the insights.
