My reason for asking this question has to do with the extreme difficulty that many humans have in resisting malaria. I suspect that part of the reason is that lymphocytes evolved from protozoa and have difficulty in attacking distant cousins. Rather like the situation that prevails with trypanosomiasis, where lymphocytes help the invader.

PHA responsiveness would support my argument, and possibly give us an approach at therapy.
