HI, I am Chinese and have passion for fractal. Recently I have re-defined fractal as a set or pattern in which there are far more small things than large ones; see the fractal emerged from BIG data (below). This new definition captures fairly well human intuitions on fractals without getting into mathematical formula. With respect to the following figure, the first two rows illustrate geographic processes (how the tweets locations are added continuously during a day), while the third row shows the iterations of mathematical fractal snowflake.
