Thanks, all. I have passed details of R to a colleague (who is an expert user of SPSS) to give it a run through and see what he thinks and to see also whether he comes up with any tips to shorten the learning curve. Thanks again.
PSPP is an open-source equivalent of SPSS. The interface is quite similar so if you have been using SPSS, it should be easy for you to shift to PSPP.
Thanks Nitin, I've passed on your suggestion but so far I haven't received feedback of any kind on any of the suggestions. That is usually a good sign, though.
R is what your looking for. Superior to SPSS in many ways. Lots of independent developers and many packages (add-ons) to work with.
