Dear Sir/Madam, I want to work on chemicals that can inhibit ABA biosynthetic enzyme (NCED, ABA aldehyde oxidase). Although functions of growth hormone GA and cytokinin are antagonisitc to ABA action. Further several Cytochrome P450 and dioxygenase inhibitor are available, but if we use these compound, that will affect mitochondrial enzymes also. As Paclobutrazol compounds affect GA metabolism directly, do we have any chemical compound that directly inhibit ABA biosynthesis without disturbing biosynthesis of other growth regulators?

Dear Neha, there are two molecules that have been extensively used as ABA biosynthesis inhibitors in lab: fluridone [1-methyl-3-phenyl-5-(3-trifluoromethyl-phenyl)-4-(1H)-pyridinone] and norflurazon [4-chloro-5-methylamino-2-(3-trifluoromethylphenyl)pyridazin-3-one], that act as inhibitors of phytoene desaturase, which catalyses the desaturation step of phytoene to phytofluene in the carotenoid biosynthesis pathway. This mechanism of action might be sufficiently specific and focused to fulfil the requirement of your work. May I recommend you to use the pure active substance, because they are also available as herbicides in commercial formulations.
