Could you please let me know how to perform a multi-group analysis in Mplus, that is, what are the commands in the Mplus sintax for we perform a multi-group analysis? In fact, I am currently conducting a comparative study between two different cultures, and I would like to perform a multi-group analysis in order to see if the theoretical model that I proposed fit the data in both countries. The basic syntax that "enables" Mplus to perform a multiple group analysis is the “GROUPING” option in the “VARIABLE:” command. For instance, by stating “GROUPING IS culture (1=countryA 2=countryB) ;” Mplus would run a multiple group rather than a single group analysis.
The more complicated thing is to “build” a suitable measurement model for your latent variables (if there are any), in which the parameters (e.g., factor loadings) are equal across groups. Testing this so-called measurement invariance is what you are probably referring to by saying "to see if the theoretical model that I proposed fit the data in both countries". Basically, the model should at least be partially invariant in order to ensure that there are no substantial differences in the way individuals of the different groups respond to certain items of your measurement model. Otherwise, associations in the structural model containing these latent variables might be inacceptably biased.
I would recommend studying lecture 3 of the statistical analysis course taught by Prof. Muthén who explains the rationale and all the necessary steps for performing multiple group analysis in Mplus (Link to UCLA Website). Also, you can see good examples on how to build the syntax for multiple group models in chapter 5 of the user’s guide on the Mplus website (examples 5.14 to 5.17).
