I have been analysing compounds with a GCMS for over few years. Some of them I would like to test for biological activity. I have attempted liquid separation by several means with no success to copy what was achieved by gas separation. Someone told me the best way around it would be directly collecting a fraction from the GCMS system, however the systems I use are analytical and with low-volume yield. I would thus be interested in knowing about a preparative system model that I could search for. Any ideas?

I don´t know if there is a commercial system for it. One suggestion is to modify your analytical system using a packed column in your GC, or WCOT column with a thicker film, so you can inject more sample in it. You will also need a valve to collect fractions before your MS. If you need a more concentrated fraction, you can inject and collect several times the same fraction. You can trap the eluted compounds using a cartridge after the valve. This is not something easy to do, but it can be done!
Other idea is to look for multidimensional systems used in petrochemical area, such as PONA and PIONA analysis.
