If you provide more detail it's easier for other people to help you.
Are you looking for introductory material on the subject? In that case I recommend reading Miller and Blair (2009).
Are you looking for data to work with? I can point out a few resources if you're more specific about the time period and country you're interested in working with.
i would be happy if i get suggestions on introductory material as well as suggestions on software that will be more user friendly to use on a research. the research will probably be about a southern African country, or a sector within maybe south Africa or Zimbabwe.
i intend to do a research paper.so at the moment i want to grasp the concepts, and if there is anyone with a hot topic, you are welcome to suggest any.
You should be aware of the http://www.gams.com website. It has many applications using th GAMS model. I have used it to model latin america vs. the rest of the world in an articles published in the "International Fiance Review" Volume 5, Latin America Financial mMarkets: Developments in Financial Innovations, edited by Arebelaez and Cllck. The GTAP data base from Perdue University provides international data, including data for Africa. Hope this is useful.
GTAP has SAMs for a few other South African countries: https://www.gtap.agecon.purdue.edu/
The EORA database also reports tables for Zimbabwe (but to be honest I think the data is unreliable):

About research questions:
To find inspiration maybe you can browse the literature on African economics (e.g., http://jae.oxfordjournals.org/). Possible questions: the effect of market distortions such as energy and food subsidies; the effect of climate change; the effect of international aid; etc... People like Sherman Robinson and Channing Arndt have interesting studies about Mozambique, South Africa and other African countries. Specifically about Zimbabwe a quick Google search returned:
