I am conducting a study to determine what percent of church 'members' actually participate in church activities like choir, bible study, youth ministries, church outreach, transportation, grounds maintenance, etc. (I am excluding simple attendance to the weekly service and money donations.)
Hmmm. I would think that a survey of the clergy or that administration would quickly provide those metrics. My sister might know for her church. I am a Catholic and she is an evangelical christian in Austin, Texas.
Thanks, Alan. I plan to survey the pastor, clergy, or admin. leader of about 300 local churches in Central Texas. My hypothesis is the Pareto Principle ~ that about 20% of official "members" perform about 80% of the actual participation in a Christian church.
If you Google "church growth movement" or fuller seminary, a leader in gathering those stats during the 80s and 90s, y o u might find some good data.
Barna research in California may already have collected/reported data on this topic, especially in the US church:
