From the sustainability point of view, Chemical recycling of PET and used as precursor for the new value added materials definitely conserve the utilization of fresh petroraw materials for the same material, that directly justify your economical point. While environmental friendly point can justify through waste management, as its small fraction of it can also make great impact on environment.

So in my point of view you should focus on recycling strategies by bio-material rather than other parameter.
