In the article "Oxidizing Capacity of Periodate Activated with Iron-Based Bimetallic Nanoparticles" published by Lee Hongshin in Environmental Science & Technology, they provided a HPLC method to analysis those three anions,but the specific information about the wavelengths used were not provided. Does anybody know the specific information of analysis method of periodate(IO4-),iodate(IO3-) and iodide(I-) by HPLC?
Hey, actually I found the methods part of this paper abit lacking. A couple of pointers: "simple" chromatgraphy method won't do, in this case you need to use ion pair chromatography. However, in my experience most of RP C18 columns will work (like the one suggested above). As for the ion pair reagent the most common is TBA (Tetrabutylammonium bromide). You may wanna try this conditions but remember you may need to change them accordingly to your needs. 0.01 M n-Octylamine, set to pH 4, flow rate 1.0 mL/min, injection volume 5 µL, column temperature 40 °C. Detection UV at 210 nm. Usually for a SPE phase, if needed, a SAX cartridge will do (Oasis MAX delivers perfectly). If this is the case, I suggest precondition with 2 mL MeOH and 4 mL water, load 1 mL sample (you may change this if LoD is too high), wash with 3 x 1 mL water, elute with 2 mL 0.5 M NaCl solution. For your analytes should work as well. If you wan to replicate M&M exactly as the paper describes I suggest writing to the corresponding author. Hope this helps.
