I am doing my PhD on the study of water management of river water. I am trying to establish relationships between availability of water and increases in economic prosperity.
there is a great debate about the idea of the availability of natural resources and development, but an interesting point of view can be found when you look at a series of paper that talk about the Curse of Natural Resources. like :
-Van der Ploeg, F. (2011). Natural resources: curse or blessing?. Journal of Economic Literature, 366-420.
Availability along with accessibility, rate of utilisation (transformation to output) + conservation determine the rate and pattern of economic development.
Economic growth of a region or a country is always compared with the per capita water availability. This means more the available water more should be the chances of economic growth in a given region. So, there is a direct relationship with water availability and status of economic growth. However the problem is the availability of water at appropriate time or when needed and also the suitability of water quality for different uses. This means, it is not enough looking at the quantity of water, but one has to examine its quality and water availability in space & time.
Natural resources particularly land and water resources are the sites, inputs of economic activities including agricultural, manufacturing and industrial activities and hence determinants of economic growth or otherwise
Dear Anuradha Gaikwad, The basic idea linking the processes of improving nature and biodiversity protection systems, implementing the principles of sustainable development, social environmental (ecological) responsibility, pro-ecological reforms of implementing eco-innovations in economic processes, including the pro-ecological transformation of energy through the development of renewable energy sources and other activities aimed at constantly counteracting the progressing global warming process etc. is the pro-ecological concept of the full transformation of the traditional brown economy into a sustainable green economy / circular economy. I described this issue in more detail in my publication, which I posted in August 2020 on the Research Gate portal. I invite you to research cooperation.
