I am working on MSC isolated from mouse origin. I have done immunophenotyping and am now moving on to differentiation assay for osteogenesis and adipogenesis. A quick question- does any other cells from the bone marrow population spontaneously differentiate into adipocytes? I am experiencing a very fast instantaneous formation of lipid vacuoles and am not sure whether they are from MSC or a different cell population.

It appears that adipocytes may also be generated via hematopoietic stem cells. See e.g. here
