For today’s EFL learners whose milieu is replete with electronic, visual, and digital materials, the integration of the pertinent multimedia resources such as embedded videos, audio tracks and still visual images can facilitate learning processes. Clearly, the use of such multimodal materials are of great importance because they not only provide an opportunity for different learners with various learning styles to choose a way of learning that most suit them, but also serve as a strong motivating factor for learners and make the language learning process more enjoyable. Moreover, the use of multimedia resources that are accompanied with a given text provides learner with a greater deal of language input. Nevertheless, despite the era of the digital native, our students have not, under certain circumstances, abandoned more traditional resources and it would be a mistake for practitioners and other material developers to slavishly follow the digitalized medium route for everything.
The educational models are constantly in a state of flux because theories of learning are evolving day by day. The core element is to find out how students learn and understand the thought processes underlying particular instructional designs in order to discover different ways of achieving the expected outcomes efficiently. Notably, it seems that students do not learn much just sitting in classes listening to lectures , doing prepackaged assignments, memorizing information, and parroting what they have learned. Rather, the learners should talk reflectively about what they are learning, relate what they have learned to past experiences, and apply them to the situations they encounter in everyday life . Here is when technological toolkits are much needed and such a need has triggered the emergence of the important field of elearning. Not surprisingly, e learning does not happen in a vacuum and it requires careful planning and implementation. One of the basic decisions in this regard, as you have rightly observed, is the choice of appropriate digital tools. The following links can hopefully provide you with a wide range of tools that teachers usually use in online educational contexts:
Five years ago, someone said in a congress that Moodle was obsolete. However I use it in my university and it works very well. I recommended, because I don't know another better platform and also is free software.
I use Google Classroom to communicate with my students. In order to prepare and for the lectures given in the classroom, using PowerPoint and whiteboard.
We use Moodle as our open source learning management system and Swift Polling to conduct online anonymous quizzes/polls during class time and show the results in real time.
