It needs a cultural awareness

Thank you for your question. The use of flipping classroom is useful for sure. But in my experience you cannot turn all sessions to become flipped classroom. It is not possible for students and staff. However, you can and you should do such move in postgraduate courses.

Thanks for your answer, but I think courses like molecular genetics, animal breeding and many in depth topics could be supplemented using flipping, for example; students could learn the rudimentary aspects before coming to class for discussion, thereby creating general awareness on the topic to be discussed. I think it is worthy right?

Dear Ubaida Adamu Muhammad, I also agree with Samy Azer and Yousif Yaqoob Yousif that this is a possibility that could be alternated with other methodologies. And do not apply to all content and all levels of teaching Biology or Natural Sciences. I think the context also influences, the students need to be prepared for this other teaching organization, as well as the teachers, right Angela James ?

Yes, the flipped classroom is certainly an important inclusion as a teaching strategy. Students are expected to read, something that they do not actively engage with (so we are improving scientific literacy, as meaning will be explored), linked to the class discussions and activities that they will have to complete. it does require much planning, but the implementation is flexible, interesting and may be challenging for the students, if they have not read for meaning, or not read at all....The class discussions are pivotal in transforming the learning and the accountability, taking responsibility for their own learning - for students.

Yes, definitely. Its a pedagogy that requires involvement of students before and during the class. In the current situation of pandemic, it would be very effective as students are learning online from their home. Today's generation is techno savvy. They like to watch videos on vlog, youtube and other media. Faculty can utilize this for their course and engage students in learning before conducting the class by sharing short videos. For the students who are not motivated, faculty can design short graded quizzes ( based on the shared video) which is to be conducted during the class. This will make them watch the video and participate in the class discussion. Flipped classroom will increase work of an instructor but its worth for students' learning. It is useful for all the disciplines.

I flipped the classroom in primary school-learning with biology. It was hard for the teacher to plan the activities but in the end they were successful! At home videos and games online, sharing comments and notes among mates through padlets and primarypads; at school mind maps, experiments and laboratory activities on concepts, in groups of 4 pupils.
