Unfortunately, when the open access way was started, the objective was ethical: Open Science! but now with the emergence of hundreds of new open access journals (especially those from predatory publishers from India) that force authors to pay for publishing their efforts! this humanistic objective is not realized! If really we want open science then it is required to waive the fees to all authors from developing countries. Few journals from respectable publishers ensure that (sometimes only a reduction)! But most of them reject any request for a waiver !. In addition, don't you think that these fees are in the majority of cases overestimated?!!
Open Access must be a choice not an obligation for all journals!

I think that initially, the intention was to create a competition to the publishers who charged a lot of journals' subscription fees, and to enhance open information sources, but as happen with many ventures, it became commercialized, and researchers who choose the open access journals have to pay to become OA to the interested users.
I agree with Avishag Gordon. I think, in most of the open journals, first submission is free. In some cases it reduces the standard of the article. In india, it will effect the growth of science.
I guess there should be a label for real OA, comparing to the fair trade one. No fees, peer review-top qualitiy, and real open access (gold).
