It is not easy to publish articles in peer reviewed journals in Mathematical Science. If you work in a department that includes a graduate program at the Master's level and at the Ph.D. level. have you published articles with Master's students or did you work on articles only with Ph.D. students? Please explain why you worked or did not work with students at the Master's level. Thank you.

Can you publish a research article with a M.sc student? The standard answer is no - due to ethical concern because Msc programmes are not designed to produce research for public use. If the Msc student has contributed to the work, you can include the name of the person as an acknowledgement. You must acknowledge every person that contributed to the article. Most journals also require the submission of a cover letter together with author biography. Some editors may not be happy to see an Msc student as a first author or second author. To deal with this, the senior researcher can use himself as the first author, and can later reverse the order of authorship after the manuscript has been accepted for publication.
As a general rule, you need to consider other situation affecting the student before co-authoring with a Phd or Msc student. You need to consider if the student:
- Has the mental capacity to undergo the tedious process involved in translating research ideas to writing the manuscript, re-writing and revising the initial and reviewed manuscript
- Is the student in the early or final year of the Phd programme? And will the student's involvement in publishing at either stage affect the student's current progress in their Phd programme?
- Does the student want to pursue a career in academia or industry. There is no point in introducing a student to academic publishing if they do not want to continue with academic research after their degree.
- And other considerations.
To be safe, if you must co-author with a student, you should focus on Phd students not Msc students unless the Msc student is exceptionally intelligent for research.

Thank you for your detailed response to my question. The issue of including or not including Master's students in some research projects may differ from country to country or mayeb differ from university to university. It is strongly encouraged at my university to include students in research projects, and we do not (yet) have any Ph.D. programs at UWF. While I did not ask about feedback on "undergraduate research", here in the USA there are special programs through the National Science Foundation (NSF) that fund such research activities. As you can see, there exist differences in viewing research for students with lower education attainment than Ph.D.
