We have been using thinner to remove the insect specimens from sticky traps. However, we would like to use other solvents with no toxic effects.
Thank you very much for your quick answer! I also came across this paper, however, these solvents also seem to be toxic to humans.
Thank you very much!
Hi Negin!
We use Citrosol Cleaner (citrus oil, almost pure d-limonene) for this matter, it works very well, is non toxic (for humans) and has a pleasant citric smell :)
See you,
Rik
Hi Rik,
Many thanks!!! That would be great!
Do you have any experience with the quality of the DNA extracted from specimens treated with Citrosol Cleaner?
Hi Negin,
I asked my colleagues, the psyllid samples they used this for, for some reason never underwent further DNA extraction. So I can't say.
It seems, it could have an effect (or require additional washing steps) see link.

Thanks Rik! I will give it a try. Hopefully, this oil will not interfere with our molecular analysis.
Use some 70% ethanol to remove the stickyness. Also 25% acetone in water is effective to remove the stickyness, if it does n't affect your samples.
Hi Justin,
Thanks for your answer! I used ethanol but it was not possible to remove the glue completely.
Acetone should work, and you can adjust the concentration based on the stickiness. We use it to remove insects from sticky cards.
following.
Thank you very much Justin!
The use of oil as Ricinus communist coul resolve your problem!!
