Dear all,

I am dealing with variables interdependence in a comparative and qualitative case study. Precisely, I am working on the comparison of two case studies and I consider the variables that I will compare as interdependent, rather than dependent and independent.

I am aware of the need of dependent and independent variables to establish some sort of causality. However, I see the two variables (governance structure and governance resilience) as mutually dependent, i.e. more of one would lead to more or less of the other (as in a feedback relation). To make a clearer example: more power in the hands of dominant actors (a governance structure) would reduce the governance capacity to transform the governance structure and its function.

If you are aware of literature on variables interdependence in qualitative studies, please feel free to contribute.

Thanks in advance

Best
