I´m wondering whether new urban district projects have the potential to bring benefits into the local context in terms of energy performance (use, savings, generation, etc). I see such benefits more clear in existing urban districts where the improvement of energy performance is done through the renewal or upgrading of buildings (which that is not possible in new urban neighborhood projects).

The energy specifications and the energy performance are highly varied from place to place, having a highly localized impact on the, each case, site studied. I think you could find interesting the cases of Ørestad and Nordhavn in Copenhagen, Denmark. The first one is completely new, while the second one is a regeneration of a former industrial area.
They are new developments, following sustainability and building efficiency standards.
