I am submitting a grant for a fluorescence-activated cell sorter (FACS) and considering BD FACS Melody. The equipment will be housed in one PI's lab but will be used by multiple labs after training. We do not have a Core lab. I would like to know if anybody has personal experience with this model. I particularly want to know about its reliability, ease of use, frequency of breakdown and the responsiveness of the manufacturer in terms of service needs. In addition, would you recommend this or another model. If another model, which one will that be?

I have used the same BDFACS melody model. It is good if you use and maintain frequently. Initially, you could face few issues with sort nozzle, steam and CS&T run, if not used for few days. But you'll get lots of thing in melody software, like statistics and lots of options to plot graphs or histograms without using additional softwares.
