Lots of papers have been written on successful exporters but not many on unsuccessful ones. If you have case study data on such firms (or those that quit exporting but managed to survive (e.g. were taken over)), then maybe we could collaborate?
I have studied Port wine industry, which is mostly export industry. My question to you is how do you define failure? Is it bankrupcy? I know several cases of export failures in the historical data but it is difficult to discover because some are compensated by other markets or bankrupcy is avoided by merger and acquisitions.
I am interested in bankruptcies of exporting firms, but also cases of export decline (both overall decline but also fluctuations: e.g. decline in some markets, growth in other). I am interested in data and also, if possible, information why these fluctuations happened. something like this: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0969593113000115
