I have two problems: 1) it is somewhat hard to produce long set of negative and neutral words which will be matched in arousal, frequency and length 2) repeating shorter set of words couple times will cause habitation of stimuli.
I am wondering if you know any study or have some experience with such problems? I will be grateful for any advice.
There's one study I know of where they used ABMT with the EST to measure change - Khanna et al 2015 (Attention training normalises combat-related post-traumatic stress disorder effects on emotional Stroop performance using lexically matched word lists). Generally, there's been criticism of the EST with reliability, although a few studies specifically examined it - Strauss et al (2005) (Test-retest reliability of standard and emotional stroop tasks: an investigation of color-word and picture-word ) specifically looked at test-retest reliability and has good guidelines for (what appears to be) the most reliable methodology to use, which is basically a response to your second concern - they suggest randomized blocks with valences intermixed instead of a valence-block design. It's less likely you'll see habituation with an appropriately large stimulus set (I think).
While it should be easy to match lexical variables like frequency and length (see below for some resources) it will probably be pretty difficult to match them on arousal.
As for resources to develop the balanced word lists, if you're doing this in English, I'd suggest the paper by Warriner et al (2013) (Norms of valence, arousal, and dominance for 13,915 English lemmas), where the authors actually provide a huge list of normed words in English. And use the English lexicon project http://elexicon.wustl.edu/default.asp to examine the lexical variables and check they're balanced.
