I agree with Dr Ahmed that not the most of conferences go toward commercial concerns and leave the scientific issue. However, sometimes I have attended conferences that have forgotten the purpose of the conference due to the commercial sponsors.
Unlike in previous years when scientific conferences used to be organized by the scientific societies, nowadays many commercial publishers/ printers are organizing scientific events for profit making. They charge very high registration and other fees to the participants. To attract more number of participants they accept all scientific contributions (papers, posters, presentations) without rigorous evaluation of their quality/ originality, and print/ publish them as conference papers. Organization of such scientific events is proving to be like arranging tours and travels for the scientists. Papers published in such conference proceedings are often found to be poor in quality.
Serious and committed researchers should avoid wasting resources (energy, fund and time) for participation in such conferences and contributing papers there.

Business has entered in to many scientific activities including research projects(sponsored),publication of scientic papers, conduct of seminars ,conferences etc.Several quick publishing online journals have come up in the recent years.Similarly the organizations and institutes (including Government) have created very good /excellent conference facilities. These are being used for both serious scientific meetings and also for some purpose- oriented seminars/conferences.I have been attending more of scientific institute/organization sponsored meetings rather than general conferences accomodating all disciplines/ interest groups. One more important point is small group discussions or brainstormings can be more effectively used compared to big conferences. Also to get more participants more entertainment /sight seeing activities are included in seminar/conference programmes.I find some times the concluding sessions are not seriously conducted.I agree with Dr.Kundu that the seminar papers are not properly screened and published. On the other hand in some seminars nothing remains after conclusion as the manuscripts of presented papers are not prepared/collected by organizers and the recommendations are not thorough and serious.
