Surprisingly, there are a lot of citation formats in use. Although software could manage that researchers should have to spend their time while reformating the citation to transfer the manuscript from one journal to another. Should it is not good to use a few robust formats across journals? I think the important thing is conveying the knowledge not struggling with formatting of citations.
The problem would be how to convince journal editors to change their format.
Dear Takele Taye Desta thank you for this interesting and important technical question. This problem always existed, and I'm afraid that it will persist in the future. As indicated by Wolfgang R. Dick which publisher will ever agree to adopt other publishers citation style? Nothing in the entire publication process is more annoying than reformatting the list of references to a different citation format!
