The idea that we have to rethink the education system from the ground up can be viewed as evolution rather than a revolution. This question forms a hot topic for discussion amongst many academics who express their concern at the exponential increase of open online courses which rival with lecture hall higher education. So, it remains unclear which direction to take, and should a hybrid model of higher education be adopted? What are your views?

Dear Mohamed, It is a very important question for the present. I think we need a new model. The march of technology is relentless and that is opening new frontiers for higher education. As Tiia said students should have access to more comprehensive opportunities for education. Some of that could be face-to-face, online or blended as the case may be. The model to be used has to be determined based on the circumstances of the educational institution and the student. So we need to have a more flexible method of providing opportunities for learning. So the universities need to be flexible, agile and adaptive to take advantage of the situation.

I think we need a mix of both. Online coursse can provide new opportunities for those who are working and not able to attend lectures. A mix of both methods look ideal.
A blended mix is definitely good and for regular full time courses I would prefer online introductory courses before anyone takes the face-to face class room course.
Online courses definitely have some advantages and it's really helpful for working busy professionals, or someone with disabilities to go for a full time on-campus course. Sometimes the courses we want to take are not available on-campus locally and online courses are the only available solution in such cases.
Yes, I believe we need a new model in higher education since new variables have enter tne education process. High quality, green enviroment .. etc should be taken into consideration.
Take your class outside in the sunshine and let your students find a comfortable place to sit, not too far away from you and preferably in the shade of some trees during a warm afternoon. Then, instead of an overhead projector, start a discussion on a topic related to the principal topic of a class.
Yes a hybrid model might be beneficial, However as the education is now a student center model, you should include students in this discussion as suggested by James. Do not forget the opinion of the beneficiaries from the labor market as well.
I believe that more and more universities have to meet a growing number of new students. Thus, it is necessary to adopt a model that includes e-learning.
I believe that the best kind of education that is practiced to groups of no more than 30 students, with the teacher using chalk and blackboard. But we have to accept solutions that can serve more students. However, it is impossible to give up quality.
New education models can not be formed only with online learning. It is a good form of learning but should be considered as the best solution .
Traditional learning is forming students. Students need training, explanations, seminars, practical work, conversations with colleagues / teachers , debates. We are also people and we feel the need for socialization. What kind of socialization we do if we learn with online courses? Socializing virtual?
It is good to consider an interconnection between the two ways of learning: with online learning and traditional learning.
