To be sincere, the invention and development of internet technology has brought a set back to some traditional way of achieving success. Why would I need to buy a printed book when I can easily obtain 10 times of such online without stress? We just need to move on from the past and adopt a new way of success.
I think that with the appearance of e-books, nothing has changed. I would not to make opposition between paperbook and e-book. The essence is the same. In the Moscow metro now most adult people travel with electronic books, not with paper ones as before. But young people - with communicators. The problem is here. They not recieve information, they communicate, with same empty heads...
One of the primary purposes for reading books is to gain knowledge. Books are a good source of knowledge but the publication process makes the knowledge outdated in some cases, particularly if the original book is in a non-English language. With faster, technology-assisted, open source sources of knowledge, books may have lost their edge. Having said that, there is no substitute for classics, and we might need to step back from our busy schedules and do some self reflection.
If we talk about books in physics, I would say that not much, however, at the end of the book as such, of course, if the literature we study comes from there. Fortunately there are virtual books, which serve us a lot.
it depends on which books do you mention. about scientific ones, we spend at least 10 hours a week for it but for other one, in fact i spend a little time unfortunately.
The information and knowledge became available easy to reader by using many devices and methods, one of them the books, but I think that books not the preferred choice for readers with the development of technology
We still have time for books, b,cos , books have been a source of knowledge , power, resources, solution to problems, books are very own, reduces stress, and are available to us at out time for the time we decide, and it improvises reading and writing skills.
here one key point is , the shape and form of book is changing or changed.
we have started reading and searching on internet and ebooks, online journals, article repositories, e libraries, this has some pluses and some minus both.(anyway the change is invariant, so have to accept.)
the old books may be gifted by grandparents signed by them, are still fondly preserved as a memory and heritage, which you own, the same is not true for the ebooks and internet reading material. no doubt, the information is on hand.
Reading a book is good for getting a background of something. But I think, you may not need to read books as a researcher, because scientific papers are more sophisticated, and mostly in electronic version could be reach.
To conclude, books are the best source of knowledge and wisdom. its no matter if we prefer hard-copy/soft-copy. My sincere thanks to Drs Segun Michael Abegunde Remi Okeke

I agree that we don't have enough time for reading books as most of the material needed for writing researches can be easily and quickly accessed online. You may have a limited number of books in your home library but you can access thousands of then from the internet.
I read at least 1 book a week. I prefer to reading literaure books; however, the type of the contents do not matter, e.g., comics.
I am now working as a translator for Korean poet Seok-Nam Jang's poems in collaboration with American poet Paulette E. Bane. Such an experience are really helpful for me to find a critical clue to my research question and also enrich the contents of my articles, which make my research outcomes distinctive from the others.
The culture of man does not depend on the amount of what he reads, but on the number of good books that he understood, understood and utilized in his practical life.
The more people read, the less they become like others.
We are not the first people on Earth. I hope not the last. All the experience of previous generations is accumulated in books (it’s not so important whether are these in paper or electronic form). Not very important either - these are special or narrative books. "Tell me what you read, and I will tell you who you are ..." Well, if you do not read books, it means that you read (or listen) what people who read books wrote (or speak).
A day is still counted to be for 24 hours. The number of books are increasing with diverse topic meeting varied interest. Books are meeting our quest for knowledge consistently since ancient times and they will, in future too.
But whether we really reserve some space and time for books depends more on individual preferences, priority and mindset to fulfil the objective of life than due to competitie life style, technology, bla,bla bla......
For me, books have a definite and distinct place in my life
Though, there is a decline in book reading, but books are still thriving. I agree with Amit that more people are reading books now than did in the past particularly in literature. Despite substantial literature/information and knowledge available online in my subject area, I still like reading books.
It is obvious that reading hard copy books nowadays are declined as the matter of expense and availability. The fact that, currently we are living in a nano chips technologies. We have unlimited books on our tips finger which might be free or less expense, we can carry as a nanogram or zero gram weight. Thanks to google books or...I do agree, researcher or scientist read more books than ever before (online and soft copies).
Nowadays we don't have enough time to bury oneself in books as a rule. And it often creates clutter and upsets the kind of mental concentration allowing us to impenetrate into the essence of matter
I believe that all of us should not stop reading books. Writing chapters in edited books is such a good practice to keep on track with such really useful and holisitc resource of information.
We do not have enough time for books because of our research and teaching work at the university, which consumes all our time and our concern with graduate students.
Yes. One should make time for it. In this fast modern world people would rather Google and get their answers and do not want to spend time with books. But if you like books, you can make time for it. For example on your commute to work via train or bus, it is an excellent time to read a little bit and over the course of a week or two you can finish a book.
I agree with you, the hours of reading is decreased.
WHY? it is difficult question, but i can say it depends on the budget and maybe other factors. The hardcover books have fewer distractions than the Ebooks.
It's not really about the books nor is it the function of reading. What truly matters is getting your information through the literary writings from scholars and professional experts in having your questions answered, finding solutions, resolving a difficult situation, easing the suffering of the less fortunate, providing free access to quality education for the financially strapped individuals, or relieving tensions to avert violence, and the list goes on. Time is artificial and our actions with good intentions from the uplifting writings and essays of others are real to make a positive difference in this world.
