Homogeneous Reservoir:
Do we have a “homogeneous reservoir formation” in reality - as almost all the reservoir formations display spatial variations in reservoir permeability?
Do we at least have reservoirs that do have variations in reservoir permeability but still maintaining a constant average value of reservoir-permeability through space/volume - so that the concept of “homogeneous reservoir formation” can be justified - at least to some extent?
Dear Prof Suresh. I think a homogenous reservoir is much more the exception than the rule. Considering reservoir consists of facies associations, and depositional facies are generated by sedimentary processes, it would be quite surprising the sedimentary processes became unchangeable through enough time to produce a homogenous reservoir. In fact, the geological record exhibits several examples of the shift of facies associated with reservoirs. Besides, reservoirs must be seen within a chronostratigraphic framework. It means that reservoirs and their associated facies are constrained by timelines. The variability of facies generated by sedimentary processes variations during this time span, both in the strike and depositional dip, therefore is the rule. As permeability and other petrophysical properties are intrinsically dependent on facies associations constrained by the chronostratigraphic framework, they are expected to vary too.
It is worth mentioning the effect of diagenesis, which may contribute to even more heterogeneities...
Respected sir. I feel that in most of the scenarios we try to study theoretical concepts which are not applicable to real-time scenario sir. There is always some gap between the academic community and the government organisations. Because they often don't give proper results for analysing a data know sir.
