I am going to buy a cyclic voltammeter for my MFC research. I found Dropsens ustat8000 which has a current range of max 100mA and the other one is Gamry Interface 1000 and it has a current range of max 1A. Does anybody use any of these or do u have any advice? I have not used cyclic before so I need your advice.
Either one will do cyclic voltammetry. Unless you are making a very large microbial fuel cell, then you will never need to go beyond 100mA. The software interface is very different between the two potentiostats and everyone has their personal preference of which potentiostat they prefer. Other companies to consider are BAS, Autolab, Biologic, Pine Instruments, and CH Instruments. All of these companies make reliable instruments. However, some of them sell potentiostats that also have capabilities to do impedance measurements and that is a common characterization technique in microbial fuel cells, so you might want to consider that capability, if you have the budget.
What kind of MFC in terms of electrode size do you want to study? That will determine the current range that you have to chose. Do you want to perform CV experiments at different cells at the same time? Then you should consider multi-channel instruments. In our lab we use BioLogic instruments. Some of them are highly modular, you can add impedance channels, ultra-low-current channels or you can add a booster in case you want to go towards big cells. What is the amount of money you want to (or are able to) spend?
The electrode size of my MFCs is 4x6 cm and i do not need multichannel. I'm talking with Gamry for Interface 1000 model. It has 10nA-1A working range and it has capability of impedance measurement, It costs 16.000 €, i think i'm going to buy it. Is the current range acceptable for certain electrode size ?
