Hi,
I know that total protein amount may be a good marker of in vitro biomass (see references below), however I am looking for papers that demonstrate a good correlation between cell number in vitro and total protein extracted from the culture.
Can anyone help me, please?

Stefano - I don't have a specific reference, but just looking through the references you supplied I'd recommend a couple of things -
First, be cautious in drawing any conclusion from biofilms. There's so much variability in the matrix content from one prep to the next that you'll have difficulty making any correlation.
Second, the correlation between protein content of pelleted planktonic mammalian cells and cell number is probably variable enough between cell types that you're better off doing your own curve. Assuming you have access to wet lab space, that's probably the easiest answer, and can be accomplished in a day with a Coulter counter, certain models of flow cytometers, or even a hemocytometer and a microscope.

first of all, thank You very much for Your kind and useful answer. Since it is a known fact that the amount of total protein within a specified cell is roughly constant, it should be true that the extraction of n cells can yield a proportional amount of total protein. I was just looking for some reference dealing with a correlation between cell numbers in vitro and the amount of total protein extracted from those monolayers.
However, I will go on looking for adequate literature. Thank You again and have a nice evening.
