I am using a load cell at the base of the needle to measure the forces on the needle applied from the tissue that the needle is inserted into. However I also want to record data while retracting the needle but I got nothing. Does it mean that my load cell is not bi-directional?
I bet it is because the load cell is not sensitive enough or that the amplification of the signal is not sufficient. I cannot imagine that the forces during retraction are very high. I would assume that they are negligible unless forces are being applied to the tissue perpendicular to the direction of needle insertion.

thanks for the answer, yes my load cell is not that sensitive. Can I measure the friction while insertion into the same channel and then assume that the retraction friction force is in the opposite direction of this?
