Being a member of the editorial board, I often come across many requests to write editorial notes for some journals. They just ask to write on some topic suggested by them or leave it on me as per my interests.
Whether these editorial notes are equivalent to articles published or not. Whether they also receive the same acceptance as research papers from the scientific community or not. And above all, the journal impact factor applies to editorials or not.

Most of the editorial section is is invited by journal to share their view in current trends of the field. This type of section is generally for the purpose of a motivational approach to research community. These article is not based on research. So, from my point of view such section must not be considered as equivalent to other article, which is produced by an experimental approach.
As Dr. Martin listed that these editorials are listed in the WoS, is it not an injustice on part of the writer. Sometimes the editors present a review on some important topics as editorials and share some very useful information too. I agree that they are not peer reviewed, but they are written by experts on the topic in most cases and as long as they are not experimental findings (which need to be scrutinized or reviewed), they are almost similar to review articles. although small but informative in most of the cases.
