most of the research papers that I found about QS agents described their activity in the inhibition of biofilm formation. I found some manuscripts that demonstrated their potential at different biofilm stages (e.g. https://aac.asm.org/content/aac/59/4/2265.full.pdf ). But I still do not know/understand exactly how QS agents can disrupt or at least have impact against preformed biofilms.
Anti-quorum sensing or Quorum-quenching agents generally inhibits the quorum signalling consequently impairs the production of biofilms, siderophores, exoenzymes and outermembrane vesicles. By doing so, these anti-quorum sensing agents INDIRECTLY impairs the pathogenicity/virulence and development of resistance ability against ABX.
I don't think anti-quorum sensing agents interferes or disrupt the existing biofilms.
Thank you for your answer. Is it possible that against preformed biofilms some anti-QS agents have a role as dispersal agents with or without affecting EPS production?
To my knowledge there are no such anti-QS agents that disperse the existing biofilm mass .
