I'm working on a project that involves the extraction of RNA for nasal epithelial tissue and I am trying to improve my RNA yields. I have been using motorized pellet pestle to disrupt the tissue prior to extraction with RNeasy mini kit but it looks like we need a more aggressive method. I'm currently looking at the Qiagen TissueRuptor and Omni TH Tissue Homogenizer. If anyone has any suggestions on good tissue homogenizers under $1000 as well as other extraction strategies they would be greatly appreciated.

I have not used this grinder for RNA extraction but you could look into Dounce tissue grinders from Sigma. Depending on size etc they range from 50 dollars to a few hundred dollars. I doubt you will need a stronger disruption method. I find this method of disruption very efficient for liver. There are also sterilised plastic pestles for cell distruption, it fits into an eppendorf and breaks up the cells. These also have been working well for us. Let me know how you go.
