I would ask if someone can describe the main differences between these two methods for the calculation of surface energy, via contact angle measurements.
- Fowkes method;
- Owens, Wendt, Rabel and Kaelble (OWRK);
I made a search on literature finding the main difference is on the calculation, but I am not able to find the models underneath the two methods.
Does somebody have some experience on this? Thank you in advance for every reply.
You will get more professional answers, but the essence is that in the Young Dupre equation gamma(LV) (liquid vapor) can be measured, gamma(SV) (solid vapor) can be estimated, but gamma(SL) (solid liquid) cannot be measured. There are various methods to estimate this parameter from the gamma(LV) and gamma(SV) values determined for the solid and liquid components. The question is how the deviation from components are calculated (mostly by subtracting the geometric average of the components). In some cases the surface tensions of the components are used as such, in other cases the dispersion and polar components are determined using two different wetting liquids, and the geometric averages of the components are subtracted separately. Thank you for your reply Gyorgy Banhegyi! During my holidays I will read the documents you proposed me. I already knew Kruss documents, the contact angle instrument I use is from this manufacturer.
