I'm modeling a cylindrical shell of L=3 m , thickness=2cm and R=20cm with left end fixed and a bending force on the other free end. I want to study where buckling occurs. As a first step I want to do a static linear analysis ( and Not a Linear Buckling Analysis) in Abaqus. Can a linear static analysis provide me any kind of information about where buckling occurs?
A static load case is needed to build the geometric stiffness matrix for the buckling eigenvalue problem. What are the material properties of the cylindrical shell? Did you mean the inner or outer radius?
The material properties are E=210Gpa and poisson's ratio=0.3.And yes I mean the inner radius.
So in case If I want to perform a full linear buckling analysis in abaqus the following steps are required for a given load:
1) Solve the static linear system Ku=P
2) Solve the eigenvalue problem to check if buckling occurs.
Correct me if I am wrong.
But still I don't completely understand why a linear static analysis is useful before buckling analysis. A static analysis can provide me the displacements and stresses( stresses where buckling may occur). Please could you provide more information why a linear static analysis is a useful first step before Linear buckling analysis?
