Your basic assumption makes it look like you are being indoctrinated in an autocratic political system and its disciplines, like "Political Science" that isn't a science or "Philosophy" (poliical philosophy) that just imagines ideals. I think you will find answers if you reverse your assumptions and apply those of classic Anthropology (political anthropology and also legal anthropology) where "democracy" and "autocracy" are not a free "choice" (not an "independent variable leading to particular outcomes) but are driven by political and legal culture as the DEPENDENT VARIABLES of environment, hegemony, and specific conditions. Cultures are driven by different conditions and you find autocracies and democracies developing in response to those conditions. Then, in crises when there is competition for resources, systems naturally move towards autocracy. You can take a look at how this works in some of my pieces on ResearchGate (like "Predicting Political Systems") and others like "The Survival of Democracy in Mauritius" and my works on Russia ("Daily Life in a Crumbling Empire") and how the Russian system fits the geography. You might also want to read Marvin Harris' work on "Cannibals and Kings" and Polly Sly's article on the "Nonsense and Non-Science of Political Science". To create specific political systems you have to change the environment first, including the economic institutions.

Democracy is the best model because it places autonomy in the majority than in a leader. It provides for checks and balance and prioritize the rule of law. It is sustainable and archors on the tenets of democracy that provides a framework for continuity in terms of power change. It limits contradiction as the law is supreme and avoids abuse of authority.
