In determining the compaction curve for soil, I used the automatic compactor to compact the soil, the points on the curve varies by a few points, example for water content of 16%, 17%,19%,20% have a dry unit weight of 17.41KN/m3, 17.70KN/m3,17.69KN/m3 and 17.43KN/m3 respectively,

May be more heat generate in automatic one. Also it's speed will be more so obviously fineness could be achieved.

In theory, it would be an easy experiment to do. One would have good controls over associated, inherent variables. One could add sensors to measure thermal and pressure variables. And you could measure the level of difficulty to separate the compacted materials. Actually, this could be a fun experiment to do.
