I am analysing my impedance data for ceramic materials, and I'm confused between using:
- A simpler R(QR)(QR) model
- A more complex R(QR(QR)(CR)) model
Example: if the chi-square values after fitting the data are:
- R(QR)(QR): 1.68E-2
- R(QR(QR)(CR)): 2.93E-4
What would be your recommendation for me, ? Thank you.

I'm not exactly an expert in this technique, but I do have some background.
Besides just looking at the chi-square value, it's important to check if the model makes sense based on your ceramics properties. The grain and grain boundaries play a big role in impedance, so using other characterization techniques like SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy) can help you understand their influence. A good model should not only fit the data well but also be physically meaningful for your ceramic material.

If you are referring to ceramic capacitors:
- For all capacitors, ESR is an internal resistance which is in series with the capacitance.
- Ceramic capacitors have a low ESR which filters high frequencies.
- Non-ceramic have a high ESR which cannot filter high frequencies. But they can filter low frequencies.
- Both types should be placed in parallel on the voltage / current electronic assembly input. This combination helps filter incoming noise
- Decoupling ceramic capacitors (0.01μF to 0.1μF) should be placed between every IC power and ground. Digital ICs are noisy. Ceramic capacitors help protect analog circuits.
- Non-ceramic caps are commonly Tantalum capacitors.

ESR -> Equivalent Series Resistor. Every capacitor has an ESR.
