There is a wide spectrum of dermatophytic fungi that attack the human skin or cause skin diseases, about 40 types of fungi can cause ringworm, like, Trichophyton, Microsporum, or Epidermophyton . the main factors that can increase infection opportunity are contact with animals, poor immune function, crowded children schools, using public showers, use towels of infected people, contact sports, obesity, excessive sweating, from military units and from imprisoners etc.. Diagnosis is often based on the appearance and symptoms. It may be confirmed by either culturing or looking at a skin scraping under a microscope.
To avoid or prevent infection you have to keep the skin dry as much as you can, not walking barefoot in public, and do not sharing personal items. Treatment is for almost good with antifungal creams such as clotrimazole or miconazole or by mouth such as scalp the fluconazole may be needed.
