Voltaire was asked about those who would lead the human race. He answered: Who knows how to read! More importantly than reading and how much, how to learn how to read? What do we read? Why read? ... What does one get from reading? The answer seems to be very obvious for those who return reading, reading and building awareness, and increasing the knowledge of the individual world around him, a tool to build the mind, a means of advancement and progress ... External reading assigns your academic and research work and push it towards achieving the required patience.

Every researcher must have a holistic view of the world and read several areas. In this way can greatly improve the scientific contribution that will reflect in your writing and advancement of your research.
Agree researcher should read for understanding the information and spread his wings to the other areas .... knowledge gained by reading will always be helpful and would be adopted in many situations
Of course, for increasing the general culture for the researcher to make him more effective and to increase his ability to conversation in different fields.
Dear, colleagues, Do you agree with the external reading in addition to the scientific research?
Personally I think it can. E.g. when we are performing a specific research which is vertically in-depth in specific area, the external reading, different topics brainstorming with others etc. can serve as the horizontal dimension i.e. make the research like "T" or "L" shape that can generate further new ideas / inspirations for the research or new research. Because through "T" or "L" development, we are widening / expanding our horizons & permutations of more research areas that we might not be able to see them initially by merely focusing on specific research vertically.
Also if we put one more dimension e.g. different methodologies etc., this can make the research becomes 3-D / cube that can improve further opportunities for more research or cover more research angles as detailed as possible.
When reading different literature's, it will help widening the level of thinking and improves your analysis and decision making capabilities and thereby productivity. So, it is not good to limit the scope of reading only on scientific related issues only. Lets read more and more and become generalist.
Thank you for your kind answer. I also say that the reading different literatures helps widening the level of thinking and improves the researcher,s analysis and decision .
