I've recently had a lengthy debate with undergrat students who created and posted a video asking children (ages 5–10) complex questions about topics like the global economy, climate change, and nuclear energy. The intent seemed more about generating likes and entertainment than genuine engagement. While this may appear harmless to some, I worry such content risks making children feel incompetent, embarrassed, or even ridiculed—especially in public or online spaces.

Despite searching academic databases, I haven’t found much research on the psychological or developmental impact of asking children questions that are far beyond their cognitive or emotional grasp. Are there any studies or frameworks that explore this issue, perhaps from developmental psychology, media studies, or child rights perspectives? I’d appreciate any insights, references, or helpful links.
