My participants will be junior doctors as well as consultants. The aim is to understand reflection-in-action (during the action) and then see the difference particularly how and when junior doctors and consultants use material and social resources in the midst of the action.

Indubitably, reflection in action is a quintessentially important approach often used to unravel the causal mechanisms underlying human behaviour.Paying critical attention to the practical values and theories which inform everyday actions based on investigating our practices reflectively and reflexively can enhance the attainment of the expected outcomes. The tools you are using _that is, shadowing coupled with semi structured interview are appropriate. However, you can boost the generalizability of the data via triangulation by employing other qualitative techniques such as observation and a reflective questionnaire. As per my limited knowledge, you can proceed your study conducting Qualitative analysis with semi-structured way which gives you more insight result. FGD will be more associated systems but you also can conduct IDI or expert interview considering your research goal.

First of all I would like to know whether you go for qualitative or quantitative data or mixed method. The word SEMI-Structure is a matter of concern. If you choose purely qualitative data collection, well, the tool shouldn't be semi-structure rather open ended.Otherwise, it is fine. If mixed, both semi-structured interview schedule and check-list could be preferred. Refer Williams on mixed methods if you opt for mixed methods as you could find a lot of information.
