There are two new SARS-CoV-2 variants specifically from UK and SA. The UK variants have been identified in not less than 15 countries around the world, and the SA variants have only been reported in Switzerland and the UK. This development has prompted many countries to restrict flights form these countries.
Pfizer and Moderna reported they are currently testing their vaccines against the new variants
The new mutant variant of SARS-CoV-2 (known as VUI–202012/0) is 70% more transmissible than the previously dominant strain. Children are more susceptible to this variant of SARS-CoV-2.
