Reduction and hydrogen thermal treatment are chemical processes, could you please clarify more your question? The importance of GO reduction lies on the recovery of the sp2 structure. Properties such as electrical conductivity and hidrophobicity recover back.

You can search metal-based reduction. For example zinc or iron based methods. There are many reports about. You only need to rinse thoroughly to remove metal residues. The optical, electrical, etc properties will recover dependong on the degree of reduction you could achieve.
GO flakes can be reduced thermally in inert atmosphere at 1300 degree Celsius. Good GO reduction means you are approaching to make pure graphene. Depending upon the reduction you can tune the different properties of graphene, like electrical conductivity, wettabilty, optical property etc.
