I am attempting to develop a theory that humans have the capacity to "see with their bodies," essentially turning the surfaces of their  bodies into a sort of screen, where they can project both sensory and mental images. This "screen" is very basic, but it has clearly defined vertical and horizontal axes, and a clearly defined top and bottom.   My evidence for this theory comes mainly from my own experience, and also the accounts of some mirror-touch synesthetes, who experience physical sensations in their bodies that correlate with physical features of objects that they are looking at. I am wondering whether anyone has ever studied   whether there are any similarities between the distribution of proprioceptors  in the human body and retinatopic maps in the visual cortex?
