It can be Chlorella sp. But my doubt is weather it is motile or non motile?. If it is in agar medium means take small amount of liquid media and put the strain in it for some time and then observe for their motility.. if it form any motile spore it could be a member of chlorococcum .
agree with the identification as Chlorella on the basis of the image. But its true morphological features can be better studied from the natural sample if you have.Microscopic observation and imaging should be made at the earliest after collection. If its a pure culture please go ahead with the sequences analysis using the markers mentioned above.
If your sample was from planktonic microhabitat, then your freshwater alga seems to look like dramatically changed Desmodesmus or Scenedesmus species because of your cultivation. Which media have you used to cultivate this microalga? As generally known culture conditions may dramatically change morfological features of algae. Using solution of soil extract often helps ensure that algae retain their typical morphology. Please try to use different recipes for algal culture media. You will see how algal morphology can be changed by using different algal culture media.
